Sir Griflet (also Girflet, Jaufre), was one of the first Knights of the Round Table. He was a young squire knighted when he volunteered to do battle with King Pellinore.
In the Vulgate Cycle, he stays with King Arthur until the Battle of Camlann, where he fulfills the duty of throwing Excalibur back to the Lady of the Lake. In Le Morte d’Arthur, he perishes battling Lancelot when Lancelot comes to rescue Guinevere.
The romance Jaufre is the only surviving romance written in the Occitan language of Southern France.
