The Dance of the Giants

Indiana Jones and the Dance of the Giants is a 1991 novel by Rob MacGregor, part of a series published soon after the release of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It features famed archeologist Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones, Junior and his discoveries about certain elements from Arthurian myth, in particular, Merlin.

Plot[]

In the year 1925, archeologist Indiana Jones goes on a quest across Scotland and England to find the truth about Merlin's existence, opposed by the Order of the Hyperboreans, a druidic cult. It is ultimately revealed that Merlin has been living since thousands of years before King Arthur's time, able to send himself to the future.

Trivia[]

  • Merlin would reappear in the following novel, Indiana Jones and the Seven Veils, in a less-pivotal role.
  • A later novel from the same series, Indiana Jones and the White Witch, also mentions Merlin and the Scabbard of his sword, Caliburn.
  • The idea of Merlin traveling forward in time is similar to T. H. White's concept in The Once and Future King, where he also goes through history yet in reverse.
