Orkney (also Orcanie) is the name of the harsh northern island kingdom of King Lot, Hector and his father before him. Orkney correspond to the Orkney Islands in English. Located North of Scotland, this desolate region was the perfect setting to accommodate Morgause and her traitorous son Mordred.

In The Once and Future King, the name Orkney is commonly used as a last name for the sons of Lot; Gareth, Gawain, Agravain, Gaheris, and Mordred.
